PocketLedger

The paper credit book, on your phone. No login, and it works with no signal at all.

If you sell on credit, you already have a system: a notebook where the names go down one side and the numbers down the other. It works — right up until it gets wet, gets lost, or you and the customer remember the figure differently. PocketLedger is that notebook, on your phone.

You add a customer — a name and a phone number — then log two kinds of entry against them: credit given, payment received. The balance updates as you go, per customer and across the whole book, green when they're clear and red when they owe you. To chase someone, one tap opens WhatsApp or SMS with their number and the message already written. A customer who wants it in writing can be handed a PDF of their history; so can you, for every customer at once.

The apps that already do this tend to grow into accounting, inventory and staff management, and to want you logged in before any of it. If those extras are the reason you stopped opening one, this is the version without them. Credit, balance, reminder, receipt. Nothing else, deliberately.

There is no account, no sign-up and no server behind it. Everything is stored on the phone itself, which means it works with no signal at all — on a stall, in a shop with bad reception, on a bus between the two. Nothing syncs anywhere, because there is nothing to sync to. If you want the book somewhere else, you export it to a file and move it yourself.

It's in English, Hindi, Portuguese, Spanish, Indonesian and Turkish — named rather than translated. Udhar khata, caderneta de fiado, libreta de fiado, buku utang, veresiye defteri: the words each trade already uses for the book being replaced. The currency is recognised automatically and can be corrected by hand, and money is formatted the way people actually use it — rupiah and pesos without decimal places, because nobody counting them is thinking in cents.

Free for up to 10 customers and 3 reminders a month, with ads. Premium lifts both limits, removes the ads and adds export — priced per country, and shown in your own currency on Google Play.
